Once you decide to undergo
bariatric surgery, you need to select a program that
has expertise, experience, and commitment to help you throughout your entire
weight loss surgery journey. The Texas Center for Medical & Surgical Weight
Loss offers a comprehensive team of healthcare professionals who understand
the unique problems and challenges involved in the treatment of obesity. What
are some of the things that make our practice stand out?
- Fellowship-trained surgeons - Choosing a bariatric
surgeon who is highly skilled, highly trained, and compassionate is important
to your weight loss success. Our bariatric surgeons have all undergone
fellowship training. This training includes extensive experience in laparoscopic
bariatric surgical procedures and revision surgeries, as well as all
other aspects of patient care before and after surgery. A formal fellowship
is the highest level of training a surgeon can receive and exceeds the
requirements of the American Society for Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery.
Our surgeons employ the latest surgical technology and have a proven
record of success in bariatric treatment. In addition, they are caring
individuals who chose bariatrics because they truly enjoy helping change
a person’s
life forever.
- Program Internist and Nurse
Practitioner – Our Internal Medicine physician and Nurse
Practitioner both are fully devoted to our bariatric patients. They are
always available in our office to address your needs while the surgeons
are in the operating room attending to other patients. They are a great
asset to our program, as most of the followup after surgery is related
to medical issues such as ensuring adequate vitamin levels and changes
in diabetes and blood pressure medications as you lose weight. They
also serve as a bridge between your surgeon and your primary care physician
so that there are no gaps in your care.
- Program Psychologists – We
have two program psychologists available to our patients. Our psychologists
are experienced in the treatment of individuals suffering
from obesity. They perform psychological evaluations on all of our patients
prior to surgery and are available to our patients throughout their post-operative
journey as well.
- Program Dieticians – Our program utilizes the bariatric
dieticians of Northeast Baptist Hospital. The
lead dietician, Anne Geiger, MA, RD, LD, and her team specialize
in the unique needs of bariatric surgery patients. They provide
education to our patients in both private consultations and group
sessions before and after surgery. They also actively participate
in our Support Groups and are happy to provide their expertise to
our patients.
- Full time staff
devoted to helping you through the insurance process –
Working with insurance companies can be challenging at times, and they
often require you to take several steps before approving your surgery.
We have full time staff members who devote all of their time to
helping you through the insurance or financing process to make it as
easy and painless as possible.
- Monthly
Support Groups – Research shows that patients who regularly
attend support groups have better success after weight loss surgery.
Our support groups are led by Dr. Cavazos and Dr. Anz-Cavazos, who are
accompanied by a variety of other bariatric professionals to bring you
discussions on many different topics related to life after surgical weight
loss.
- Incisionless Bariatric
Procedures – Our center is proud to offer the
ROSE procedure (Restorative Obesity Surgery, Endolumenal), which is performed
without making any incisions.
- Single Incision Laparoscopic Surgery (SILS) – Our
program is proud to offer SILS. It is the latest
technique where various surgical procedures are performed through a single
abdominal incision, typically through the belly button.
