Dr. Ramiro "Sonny" Cavazos received advanced fellowship training in weight loss
surgery at the prestigious Wittgrove Bariatric Center under the guidance of world-renowned
surgeon and past president of the American Society for Metabolic & Bariatric
Surgery, Dr. Alan Wittgrove of San Diego, California. Dr. Cavazos is now the
Medical Director of Bariatric Surgery at Northeast Baptist Hospital in San Antonio.
He has broad experience in laparoscopic surgery and extensive operating room
technical expertise for bariatric procedures, including laparoscopic gastric
bypass, adjustable gastric banding (Lap-Band®), sleeve
gastrectomy, revisional bariatric procedures, and the ROSE procedure. He has performed over
1400 bariatric surgery procedures
since 2005 and has received numerous awards for his work
in bariatric surgery.
Dr. Cavazos grew up in Ft. Worth,
Texas.
He received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of
Texas at Austin.He received his medical doctorate
from the University of Texas Health Science Center
at Houston. His residency
in general surgery was completed at Exempla Saint Joseph Hospital in Denver,
Colorado. He then began fellowship training at Scripps Hospital in
San
Diego. Dr. Cavazos is a board certified surgeon with the American Board
of Surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and of the
American Society for Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery. Dr. Cavazos enjoys
skiing, fishing, college football, and other sports. He currently resides in
San Antonio with FOUR women
(his lovely wife and three daughters).
